Why Knowing First Aid and Watching Training Videos is So Important
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide first aid equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees get medical attention if they get sick or become injured at work. Every employee in the office should be educated about health and safety in case there was an emergency in the future.
Here are the top 5 reasons why it’s vital for your workplace to have first aid training:
1. Every workplace or department must at least have one qualified staff member that is trained in first aid and safety procedures. Someone that is responsible to take care of an urgent situation until the paramedics turn up. Having someone with reliable skills and first aid knowledge is a key requirement in the department.
2. Having your staff trained in health and safety is vital. They should be educated together for much better co-ordination and less misunderstandings. By having all or most of your employees trained at the same time, they can interact and share insights and there will be a better response in the case of an emergency.
3. Eliminate any kind of preconceptions or pre-judgements about first aid. Clarify any issues workers may have when dealing with an accident in your workplace.
4. Getting your staff properly trained will not only help them whilst in the workplace; but they will be able to acquire long-term knowledge and skills and put to use outside the workplace. Having trained staff at work enables an improved and more secure environment.
5. Conviction to health and safety in the workplace can make a big difference. Taking up a common course of training allows for confidence to grow and trust to be developed within your workplace. Employees who have received first aid training will also be more well-informed and aware of risk-free behavior at the office, which will avoid any accidents occuring in the first place.
It’s your employers duty to protect the health and safety of their employees and make the workplace a safer place. If you want your employees and workers to have a proper working environment, then make sure that they are fully trained with first aid. Firsthand experience that comes from training from a qualified instructor either personally or through safety videos is essential, especially when tackling an emergency situation at work. With proper education and safety training; your employees and workers can be more confident and think faster when handling certain situations that require emergency care.
