The funny thing about pain, if you've never had a strong pain after the suggestion of taking simple analgesics and rest the affected area, it seems quite reasonable. I remembered this recently when I read the advice of a doctor to a person suffering from sciatica. Having personally experienced sciatica, is a condition that I would not recommend it to anyone who wants to walk, sit, laughing, sleeping, or just to lift your pants. It's a bit like a dentist drilling of the teeth without anesthesia, but affects the whole leg. In other words, pain consuming, exhausting and restless. Clinical studies show that in most cases pain and decrease the time of surgery may not be necessary, but meanwhile the patient has to deal with the pain or treat with medication to relieve pain. Remember, pain killers are not selective to the affected area. That affect the entire nervous system and elsewhere which may have significant side effects of these drugs.
Dealing with pain can be a complex issue, but I suggest that you have to treat this very aggressive type of pain as severe acute pain is relatively easier to treat severe chronic pain. In the early stages of an injury or insult to a body area, most of the pathological processes are happening at the site of injury or insult. Over time the brain begins to modulate pain and what not just to treat the injured area, but you also has complex nerve pathways in the brain to treat well. This often means a management plan much more complex and recovery time much longer. The specialists are very adept at dealing with these issues, but they do rely heavily on the stories of their patients give them. That means being honest in answering their questions and not be heroic, with grin grin and bear it! Often, using a pain scale is helpful with zero being no pain and 10 being the worst pain I've experienced.
Another health problem that commonly sets the game is the flu. During the years I often heard people say that they have the flu vaccine, and either because they never get the flu or had last week for a couple of days and then it's all over! Influenza is a serious debilitating disease that usually lasts 10 days to two weeks and often leave your back exhausted. Not a happy 10 days, either as patients do not have the energy to read a magazine or even watch a DVD. You old literally feel every movement to be a real challenge and not include the entire body ache or fever and sleepless nights. The flu virus is extremely contagious and most people are aware that if distributed to someone who is more frail than yourself that you really can put your life at risk.
With the flu the biggest challenge is to vaccinate as many people in the community as possible, including children, employees and the unemployed, the elderly and the sick, to reduce possibility of an epidemic occurring. Recent research has also shown that vaccination of pregnant women in the last trimester of pregnancy help protect their newborn children born during the 'flu season.
Medicine has evolved over the past 40 years, but the change has been quite slow with doctors, by nature, be very cautious and conservative people. But we can not Leave physicians to take all initiatives. Because patients have to be good listeners in our approach to health by listening to all the health messages that have a lot of attention to us about vaccines, snuff, alcohol, exercise and nutrition healthy. We also have to be good communicators and tell our doctors how we feel with conditions such as pain. If the treatment team that does not have the best information then it might not end up getting the best treatment!
