Ask anyone who has friends, if you live in Austin, Dallas, Houston or elsewhere in Texas, are good for you. They are good for health, and for life in general. The proof? During the down time, friends are a source of comfort and strength. So it's important to learn to find and cultivate friendships, and for being a good friend.
Friends have to rely on her shoulders. They give you good advice. It is comfort in difficult times and share in your laughter in the good times. Friendships provide all these benefits and more. Friends may increase self-esteem, provide companionship and even help improve your mental and physical health.
It is not always easy to make friends, especially when your life is busy with the demands of work, family time or school. But friends are important both for men and women. Friendships can help you get through a divorce, job loss or death of the family. Your friends may encourage you to change habits of unhealthy lifestyles such as snuff or binge drinking. Friends are also there for you to celebrate the good times in your life – like a new baby, a new job, new home.
Some people benefit from large groups of friends. Others prefer a small circle of friends and acquaintances. There are some very good friends who depend for personal conversations, and more informal to the movies or the activities in general.
Many adults have difficulties in developing new friendships or maintain existing ones. Friendships can take a back seat to other priorities, such as long days at work. Or maybe you've moved to a place and have not reached many people yet.
Here are some ways to find new friends:
– If you have a pet, not to include it for exercise. Many cities dog parks are popular. While you're there, have a conversation with those who stop to talk or make pet play dates.
– The exercise yourself. Join a gym, senior center or community fitness center. Or start a clutch of walking in your neighborhood.
– Share a meal. Invite a new friend for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
– Accept invitations. When you get an invitation to a party, dinner or social event, accept it. You can always leave if you get too uncomfortable.
– Volunteer. Hospitals, places of worship, museums, community centers and other organizations that need volunteers. Working with people who share a common interest often can lead to a friendship or two.
– Champion the cause. A group of people working toward a goal they believe in can also create new friendships.
– Get a hobby. Find people with similar interests, like auto racing, music, gardening, books or crafts.
– Hit the books again. Take a course to learn people with similar interests.
– Sit on your porch. Porches have always been social centers for the neighborhood. Sit in the front with a cup of coffee or a good book. Be visible, open and friendly.
