Is there a good website that lists important current world news?

I feel that everyone knows what’s going on in the world besides me. Is there a good website that briefly explains world events (mainly US) as well as United States political events (such as the health care bill and and important stuff)? Please don’t suggest an online newspaper, newscast, or anything for experienced politicians. I just want to be able to continue to a conversation if someone brings up a world event.
Also don’t suggest CNN because I know it and I think it lists some unsignificant things as well.
