I’m in college for Pre-Med, want to do Phlebotomy for experience, but how can i go about this?
It’s around June and unfortunately I’ve spent my first month of summer working 2 hourly jobs and taking a classs at a tech school to get ahead at Clemson U (South Carolina) for Pre-Professional Health Studies, mostly because I didn’t think I could really do anything health-related, having only finished my freshman year recently. After grad I’m applying for masters in physicians assistant, so I want to get some exp under my belt. I really want to do phlebotomy, I think it will be a very good experience and it will give me a chance to combine work experience with volunteer experience. There is a hospital near campus and a medical center on campus. Is there any way I could get any training before I head back to college (mid august)? And if not, how should I go about training for phlebotomy while I am taking 17 hrs of classes in the fall? Is there some online class I can do or combine classes I’ve taken to be certified? Does anyone know what places typically offer on-the-job training? Thx
Most of the clinical labs in hospitals I’ve worked for have been willing to train phlebs on the job. You could also check some of the other tech schools in your area if yours doesn’t offer the course. It isn’t a very long program.
