School Health Index Survey

Should we bring back free school milk with children being required to drink it except …?

… in the case of *genuine* allergy where a suitable substitute should be provided.
I say this in the light of the what is said at end of this article -

“Of the parents interviewed for the survey, over a quarter said their children drink absolutely no milk in their daily consumption of 10 beverages a day.

Milk is essential for the formation of strong teeth and bones and guards against osteoporosis – and one glass contains a child’s entire calcium requirement.”

My boys loved their milk and had it hot at bedtime too and I try to ensure that my grandsons drink some when they are here but if some children are having *none* then that is a nutrition issue that the schools should once again tackle.
I dealt with the tooth and other health issues in another question -

I always remember when I was little helping to get the milk and handing it out, and if there was any left over it was always a fight as to who got the spare milk… We always had milk at school could never understand why they stopped it..

Most kids these days drink fizzy crap, help us out here mr government people bring back milk……..

My daughter drinks milk but my son dosn’t, he won’t even have it on his cereal. I know that if he had had it from the first time he started at pre-school he would be drinking it now..
